VILLA
TYMNESSOS
ACTIVITIES

Adventure Activities
The Dive Center attached to the Kalamar Bay Beach Club offers diving courses and
wreck dive packages. They also provide daytime and sunset
sea kayak tours through
the coves of Kalamar Bay. Several Kalkan-based companies can arrange half-day
excursions, including round-trip transportation, to the Xanthos River for canoeing or to
Patara for horseback riding. As the
Lycian Trail passed through Kalkan, outdoor
enthusiasts take advantage of the trail’s proximity to enjoy short trail walks. Tandem
paragliding is also available from the peaks above Oludeniz.

Beaches and Beach Clubs
The Kalamar Bay Beach Club is located within a 5 to 10 minute walk of the villa and
offers sun loungers, parasols and all kinds of water activities for kids and adults.
Kalkan has a pretty, crescent shaped pebble beach in addition to several other public
beach clubs.
Kaputas Beach, with its pretty cove, is less than 8km from the villa and
Patara Beach and its Lycian ruins are 17km from the villa. Both Kaputas and Patara
are regularly serviced by local buses from Kalkan.

Day Trips
If you enjoy a day on the water why not take a gulet cruise from Kalkan harbor? Private
charter cruises can be arranged by talking with the individual boat captains at the
harbor while larger, group excursions depart from the harbor on a regular basis. Most
cruises visit several local islands and stop at off-the-map beaches and coves for
swimming and snorkeling. Other interesting day trips include a visit to
Butterfly Valley
while a visit to
Saklikent Gorge, followed by a traditional Ottoman-style lunch served on
cushioned platforms that overlook the streams below, is a must.

Families with Children
Kalkan is very family oriented and most restaurants can easily accommodate families
with young children. A small playground is located within a 5 minute walk of the villa
(near Café Vita) while a larger, better maintained playground is located past Café Vita
on the road to Kalkan (about a 10 minute walk). A large
playground, tea garden/snack
stand and a shaded park area are located at Kalkan’s beach. A visit to the Thursday
market is a wonderful family outing and is a great place to pick-up souvenirs. We
recommend that families consider renting a car for part or all of their stay at the villa in
order to more fully explore the area.

Historical Sites
The villa is the ideal base to explore all the nearby Lycian heritage sites of Patara,
Xanthos and Letoon. The World Heritage site at
Kekova is also a wonderful day trip
and can be reached by car from Kas or boat or bus/boat excursion from Kalkan.

Kas
The town of Kas is located approximately 25km south of Kalkan along the coastal
road and boasts a pretty harbor, a wonderful çay (Turkish tea) garden and several
Hellenistic period ruins including the
Antiphellos amphitheater. The Greek island of
Kastellorizo is a short 45-minute ferry journey from Kas harbor and makes for an
enjoyable and culturally interesting day-trip.

Local Mountain Villages
The beautiful and traditional mountain village of Bezirgan is located 17km from the
villa and the journey provides for some amazing views. The village of Islamlar is a 15
to 20 minute drive from the villa into the Taurus Mountains and offers many wonderful
trout restaurants, some of which have lush gardens which are perfect for alfresco
dining in the cooler mountain air.
